Believe you can and you’re halfway there. -Theodore Roosevelt

Self-confidence is one of the most important traits for living a happy, authentic and fulfilling life. Without it, we can easily let our insecurities get the best of us, persistently comparing ourselves to others, hiding the parts that might not be accepted and overthinking every little decision or social interaction. If that sounds all too familiar, there’s no need for despair - your path to confidence has already started as you are reading these words.

“Anything is possible once you believe you are worthy of achieving it.” Jason Pockrandt

Being confident means accepting and trusting our abilities, qualities and decisions. While some still see confidence as a characteristic that only the lucky few possess and is completely unattainable to everyone else, it is in fact a skill that anyone can develop. It might come a bit more naturally to some than others, but it is always available to each and every single one of us - we only need to learn how to fully accept ourselves and unlock the power of our potentials.

Embrace your uniqueness

“No one is you and that is your superpower”.

There is only one you in the entire world. Out of almost 8 Billion people, you are the only one who thinks, talks and walks exactly like you do. You have a completely unique set of skills, characteristics, talents and an exclusive life-path that leads you toward achieving your goals and dreams.

Keeping aware of the fact that you are a one-of-a-kind human being with a completely unique way of living your life, the most important step in developing self-confidence is embracing yourself in everything you are - the good, the bad and the ugly. Every single one of us has different talents and abilities, different strengths and weaknesses, which is why each of us plays an essential role in this world that nobody else can fulfill.

It is imperative that we get to know ourselves, find our voice and start expressing our virtues, talents and skills in any way possible - through jobs, relationships, hobbies etc. Only you have the power to enrich this world by sharing wild passions of your heart and brilliant ideas of your mind. Have the courage to make mistakes and be who you are, as by doing so, you are not only creating the most remarkable life for yourself, but are also inspiring others to follow their paths, fulfill their purpose and bring out their most authentic, confident and happy selves as well.

Believe in yourself

Self respect, self worth and self love, all start with self. Stop looking outside of yourself for your value. - Rob Liando

Self-confidence basically means believing in yourself. Do not mistake it with arrogance, where a person tries to put others down in order to build themselves up, only to create a distorted sense of worthiness that never attributes to a real and lasting sense of self-worth. A truly confident person understands that a feeling of trust, worth and acceptance can only come from within. He does not compare himself with others, but rather deals with his own insecurities, mindfully grows his feelings of self-worth and proudly expresses himself to the world, knowing that he is just as worthy and perfectly imperfect as everybody else.

“Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.”

When you find yourself experiencing moments of self-doubt, try to talk to yourself as you would to a friend that is really passionate about doing something but is at the same time so terrified of possible outcomes that he wants to abandon the whole idea. Would you add fuel to the fire of his doubts, making him even more insecure or would you encourage him, letting him know that you believe in him and that he should always dare to follow his dreams?

Seeing how much easier it is for us to be friendly and empathetic to others, we can quickly realize that to become confident, we first have to befriend ourselves - because when we start to show ourselves the kind of love and support we usually give others, we become unstoppable.

Boost your confidence

“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” Zen Shin

Self-confidence is a skill that can most easily be developed through continuous daily practice. An amazing exercise to start your path of roaring confidence is setting one small goal for each day and achieving it. By successfully completing these tasks that you set to do daily, you will soon start to feel more and more confident in accomplishing anything you set your mind to.

It is also crucial to loudly and proudly celebrate reaching your goals, especially the ones that were harder to achieve - take the time to be thrilled about accomplishing your goals and indulge in the fact that you are far more capable than you give yourself credit for.

If you find yourself feeling self-conscious about doing something outside of your comfort zone, a great exercise for a quick confidence boost can be doing the Power Pose - stand up tall with your feet apart, put your shoulders back up, tilt your chin upward and put your hands to your hips. As research suggests, standing in the Power Pose for a couple of minutes can make you feel more powerful, enhancing your confidence to help you face your challenges in a more assertive, calm and courageous way.
